A Message from Fire Chief, Glenn Linzmeier
As Fire Chief, I am dedicated to bringing the Fire Department into the 21st century. My years of experience in the fire service will assist me in my commitment to protect the health and safety of the people of Blooming Grove, the firefighters and the 1st responders.
My highest priority is to change the department in order to assure delivery of the services and assistance that people need today. Twenty years ago, approximately 70 percent of our calls were fire related, with 30 percent being emergency medical service calls. Today, those percentages are reversed and we must make adjustments to fulfill those needs.
To improve our delivery of emergency medical services, all newly hired firefighters are being cross-trained as 1st responders; they will be manning one of our BLS (Basic Life Support) equipped fire engines.
As we enter the new century, we will reach out to communities and our town to recruit and prepare the next wave of Blooming Grove Firefighters. We are working with MATC academy students through their fire science program. From those programs we hope to attract students by presenting our agency as viable options for their futures.
I realize that change does not always come as rapidly as we would like, but together we can make positive improvements for the betterment of the department and the people of Blooming Grove.
