Garbage/Recycling

Got Stuff? If you have items that you would like to get rid of and not have put in the Dane County landfill, there are two websites that can help you with giving them away to people who want them. You can either visit http://www.madisonstuffexchange.com or www.freecycle.org and you can get together with folks from our area that will want your stuff!

Trash & Recyclables Pickup- The Town contracts with Green Valley to pick up the garbage and recycling, and they do so every Monday (except when Monday is a holiday, and then it is done on Tuesday). Recyclables should be placed into special containers provided by Green Valley. Recyclables do not need to be further sorted-they can all be placed into the one recyclable container. The contract between the Town and Green Valley includes picking up to two bags of trash, and the one recyclable container, every week per residence. If you have more than that, please contact Green Valley at 251-7878 to make arrangements. List of recyclable items.

Furniture & Appliances- If you wish to discard furniture and appliances, you can contact Green Valley at 251-7878 to make arrangements for their pickup. There is a charge for the pickup of these items. Another option for discarding appliances is to call Gary’s Appliance at 221-1150 (hint: they’re usually less expensive than Green Valley!)

Yard Waste- The Town’s Public Works department picks up yard waste (defined as grass clippings and leaves) twice every year. In the Spring they will pick it up between April 1 and May 15. In the Fall it’s October 15 through December 1 (or until it snows). Your yard waste must be placed in bags- and the filled bags must weigh less then 50 pounds. PLEASE do not put any other trash in these bags!

Twigs and Branches- The Town’s Public Works department goes around the Town all year ‘round to chop brush that you have out at the curb. Please have all the brush piled up in the same direction, with the butt ends facing the street. If you have put brush out and it is still there one week later, call the Public Works department and just let them know you have some brush. You can reach them at 442-1869.

Hazardous Material- The best place to take your paint, pesticides, poisons, organic solvents, aerosols, etc. is the Dane County Highway garage at 2302 Fish Hatchery Road. Their 2005 hours are Tuesday, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM. These hours are applicable from May 3 through October 29, 2005. You can call them with questions at 294-5366.
